In-House Translation · AI-Assisted Localization
Since December 2024, I have worked as an in-house translator at TECH Universidad in Mexico City, adapting academic content for their master’s degree programs using a combination of human expertise and AI-assisted tools.
Graduate-level academic content demands precision — in terminology, in register, and in the assumptions it makes about the reader. My role involves translating study materials that will be used by professionals pursuing advanced degrees, which means every text must be both technically accurate and pedagogically clear.
I work with Adobe InDesign to handle materials that arrive formatted for publication, and use DeepL and Trados as part of an AI-assisted workflow. The integration of these tools requires ongoing critical evaluation: AI translation at this level of specificity produces output that must be reviewed, corrected, and adapted by someone who understands both the subject matter and the target reader.
This role sits at the intersection of two developments shaping the translation profession: the rise of AI-assisted workflows and the growing internationalization of higher education in Latin America. Navigating both — using AI tools where they add speed without sacrificing quality, and knowing precisely where human judgment is irreplaceable — is the core skill this work develops.
